Kenya hockey league fires up

Kenya’s local Hockey tournament is on fire, both on the completion to top the Hockey league table and the match fixing and sponsorship woes between teams.

Defending champions in the men Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) league, Kenya Police, are in search to boost their mission to retain the trophy when they visit Parkroad Badgers tomorrow at City Park.

The draw comes amid rumors that Kenya Police had participated in match fixing scam. The allegations that the Hockey Union has promised to investigate and the disciplinary measures taken to those found on the wrong side of the regulations.

The Police are said to have fixed the match where they hammered Wazalendo Club 16-2 on November 3rd.

The game was played at City Park where Amos Barkibir scored all the goals. Suspiciously, 13 goals were scored in the last 10 minutes.

The match- fixing allegations prompted KHU executives to summon officials who managed the alleged game. KHU has also withheld the results of the match until the inquiries into the allegation are concluded.

Apparently a week after this circus in the hockey league, another controversy unfolded as a fixture between Kenya Police and Nakuru Club never happened after the umpires failed to show without up notifying the hockey Union.

Fixture administrator Moses Majiwa disclosed that the union is fronting some challenges. He widely accused the Kenya Hockey Umpires Association (KHUA) for the evident blunders.
