Jowie on hunger strike over alleged mistreatment at Kamiti Prison

The primary suspect in the homicide of businesswoman Monica Kimani, Joseph Irungu also known as Jowie, sued Prison officials over supposed mistreatment.

Jowie blamed the Commissioner for Prisons of cruel debasing treatment and has now chosen to go on hunger strike to dissent the ‘demeaning treatment’.

He said he is not comfortable with the choice to move him to Manyani Maximum Prison, in a cell swarmed with lice and snakes.

In reports held up in court on Friday, Jowie claims he was attacked by jailers at Kamiti Maximum Prison.

He guarantees that one of the officials even threatened to kill him.

“I will throw you in a hole you will never be found,” a prison officer is reported to have warned Jowie as indicated in the suit paper.

As indicated by Jowie the official executed the risk by moving him to Manyani Maximum Prison where he is being held with detainees indicted for capital offenses.

Jowie and his lover TV Journalist Jacque Maribe are accused of the homicide of Monica Kimani. Both denied the charge.

While Maribe was liberated on bail, her co-charged is still in remand.
