Ex-Barcelona and Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano has announced his retirement from football.                                              The 36-year-old commenced his career in his native Argentina at River Plate before earning a move to Corinthians.                                                                                                                                       After spending few months at the club, he then moved to the Premier League after West Ham acquired his services with the player spending six months before moving to Liverpool.

At Infield, Mascherano helped the club reach the 2007 Uefa Champions league final and played an integral part.

The player then moved to Barcelona on a €24m deal and it was while with the Spaniard giants that he enjoyed the most success in his career.

He won five La Liga tittles at the club, two Champions Leagues and two FIFA Club World Cups among other trophies during his eight-year stay at the club.

He went ahead to join Hebei China Fortune for a brief period before returning to Argentina to finish his playing days at Estudiantes.
