Harambee Stars off for a Perfect start against Tanzania in the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup

Harambee Stars kicked off their title defense with a bright start of 1-0 win over their bitter rivals Kilimanjaro stars of Tanzania in the ongoing Cecafa Senior Challenge cup that kicked off yesterday in Uganda.

Bandari winger Abdalla Hassan announced his presence four minutes after the first whistle when he scored the winner-goal for Harambee Stars.

Hassan beat Tanzania’s goalie Aisha Manula after receiving a sublime pass from Gor Mahia’s attacking midfielder Kenneth Muguna. It was the only goal that ensured Kenya got all the three points to sit on the top of group B after the hotly contested match at the Lugogo Stadium.

In the earlier match of group B that was played out in the same venue Sudan fought back to share the spoils against a 10-man Zanzibar. Sudan came roaring in the closing stages of the match to force a 1-1 draw against the islanders barely five minutes after a straight red card to Ahmada Ibrahim. Osman Yahya’s strike in the dying minutes cancelled out Francis Khamisi’s 56th minute strike.

It was a better result for Sudan but they felt they could have done much better after Emaldeldeen missed a penalty earlier in the first half.

Kenya’s win against Tanzania is a sweet timely revenge after being recently eliminated by the Taifa Stars from the 2020 Chan qualifiers. Harambee Stars will now face Sudan in their second match of group B today at 1:30 PM.
