Frustrated man commits suicide after wife fails to answer his phone calls

Kawuor Location

A man from Kawuor Location in Rachuonyo East Sub-County in Homa Bay County poisoned himself on Monday night after his wife allegedly refused to take his phone calls.

Erick Ooko, 31, a bodaboda rider, ingested an insecticide known as Triatix which is used in killing ticks, at his home at -Kadie Village.

Following a domestic row last week, Ooko’s wife left their matrimonial home for her parents’ home which is located in Kadem Village in Migori County, 110 kilometers away.

According to Kawuor Location chief, Samuel Oloko, Ooko consumed two bottles of Triatix after his wife failed to answer his phone calls Monday evening.

Oloko says Ooko’s wife had earlier agreed to return to her matrimonial home on Wednesday, April 24, but when Ooko called to follow up, his wife allegedly declined to answer his calls.

The chief says Ooko arrived at his parents’ home on Monday evening and told his father that he was returning to a nearby trading centre to send his wife bus-fare.

Ooko, however, proceeded to his house, where he locked the door and took the poisonous substance, killing him on the spot, chief Oloko said.
