A man, his wife and their three children aged between three months and 13 years, burnt beyond recognition in a fire that razed down their house in Nyandarua County.

The incident occurred in Geta-bushi area, Kipipiri Constituency while the five were asleep.

Police have launched investigations into the matter.

The elder son, a Form Two student at a local secondary school, escaped the tragedy as he was sleeping in a separate home close-by.

Police from Miharati station landed at the scene and took the charred remains of the victims to JM hospital Mortuary in Ol Kalou.

It was suspected that the inferno was started by a paraffin lamp that was found near the bodies of the man, and his wife.

According to David Mwangi, a neighbour to the deceased, the fire broke out at around 3am a few hours after the couple returned home.

Mwangi said he heard cries from the kids but when he woke up to check what was happening he saw the house engulfed in a huge fire.
