Detainee escapes from prison one month into his three-year jail term

A convict who escaped from Kendege Prison in Kuria East, Migori County on Wednesday evening is being pursued by police.

The detainee, who has been serving a three-year sentence, was cleaning the jail’s compound in a group of other convicts when he jumped over the fence and got away into a close-by bush.

Kuria East OCPD Hamed Abdikadir said the detainee had been imprisoned a month ago after he was discovered liable of stealing a motorbike.

The vanishing of the convict comes seven days after four remandees jumped from a police vehicle which was shipping them from Rongo Law Courts to the Migori GK jail.

The four remandees, who vanished into a neighboring sugarcane plantation at Stella area in Uriri Sub-County are still on the run.

Police have asked public to volunteer infomrmation that could prompt the capture of the escapees.
