Death alert: Kakamega Chief of Staff dies

Robert Sumbi, Kakamega county government Chief of Staff has died of Covid-19.

Mr. Sumbi died Thursday October 29, 2020 at dawn at the Lifecare Hospital in Bungoma where he had been transferred by the Kakamega County General Hospital after his condition deteriorated on Wednesday evening.

He had been scheduled to undergo dialysis since he suffered kidney failure. However, he could not be attended to at the general hospital, being Covid-19 positive.

He was named chief of staff after Governor Wycliffe Oparanya’s reelection in 2017.

Prior to this, he served as county executive for environment and water between 2013 and 2017.

His death came a few hours after Kakamega county government shut down its headquarters over coronavirus.

On Tuesday October 27, 2020, Radio halisi revealed that deputy speaker was among county staff who were admitted due to Covid-19.
