CS Alfred Mutua speaks on Kenyan ‘mistreated’ in Tanzania

Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Dr. Alfred Mutua has issued a statement, condemning the incident in which a Kenyan is allegedly going through hell in the neighboring Tanzania.

A day ago, a video clip of one Fredrick Omondi went viral online with the victim claiming to have been falsely charged with theft.

However, on Tuesday, Dr. Mutua promised to ensure justice is served for the Kenyan.

“I have noted the online clip of Kenyan Frederick Omondi who is being held in Tanzania. I have directed our TZ team to find out the whole story and to assist him,” said Dr. Mutua.

As I had said earlier, he added, “Kenyan who is outside Kenya will receive attention and support regardless of the situation.”

According to the clip, Mr. Omondi claims he was taken abroad by one Zachariah Hans Poppe to manage a hotel.

COVID-19

Omondi’s move to secure a better-paying job in Tanzania turned sour after his boss died of COVID-19 .

Thereafter, the employer’s family turned against him with accusations of theft, allegations that landed him in prison.

“I was accused of being responsible for the loss of building materials from the construction site, and when I complained to the project manager he told me to ignore because the complainant was probably just grieving,” he narrated.
