It was a sad moment for the mother and residents of Kisumu County after a 5 year old boy was burnt to death.

It is alleged that the mother to the child locked the boy in the house on Christmas day and went for a drinking spree when the incident occurred.

According to a resident of the slums of Obunga in Kisumu County, Mr John Otieno; the residents around were notified when they saw a huge smoke followed by huge fire that engulfed the house where the boy was locked in.

He further added that the burnt body was discovered after a struggle to put out the huge fire.

“We noticed the house was burning and managed to put off the fire. Unfortunately, the boy had already succumbed to the fierce fire,” he said.

Kisumu County Police boss, Job Boronjo, confirmed the incident saying that the mother is being pursued and will be held responsible for the child’s death due to negligence.

DRUNK

“From our investigations the mother was out in a nearby club. She left the boy locked in the house. When the neighbours notified her of the sad news [they noticed that] she was drunk,” said Mr Boronjo.

The Police Commander also said that the police are up to the task to ascertain the cause of the fire that resulted to the boy’s death.

“The safety of child should come first. The police will have to pursue the case,” said the police commander.

However, the body of the child was taken to the Jaramogi Odinga Oginga Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.
