Channel BBI funds into other development projects – MP Barasa

Didmus Barasa addressing residents of Elgon Ward, Bungoma

Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa is now urging the government to channel the funds allocated for the BBI report into development projects.

Barasa said on Saturday at a funeral function in Elgon sub county, Bungoma.

”The National government should release enough money for development in counties,” he noted.

He further observed that the BBI referendum may heavily cost the country yet Kenyans need “good” education and “proper” health facilities such as cancer screening machines.

“Some of the sections in the BBI report such as increase of funds for counties can be passed through a parliamentary act instead of a referendum. The report may cost the taxpayers’ money which can be used for other projects.” He argued, adding, “let them bring the recommendations to parliament we pass…”

However, the MP accused the BBI architect Raila Odinga for setting the country in the campaign mood. He predicts that BBI may later be used as a political party for Odinga to ascend to power.

However, Didmus who is allied to what is now known as “hustler nation” campaign, urged the citizens to vote for Deputy President William Ruto for presidency come 2022.

He advised them to extensively read the BBI report and resist political influence in making decisions.

His sentiments were echoed by Elgon ward MCA Hillary Kiptalam, who also promised to deliver his promises to the residents.

“I promise to open up more health centres as well as the construction of roads for my people before general elections.” Said Kiptalam.
