Bungoma leaders call for Wamunyinyi senator

As the battle to replace National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula in the senate hots up, leaders from Bungoma county are appealing to residents to support former MP Wafula Wamunyinyi.

Wamunyinyi, the Democratic Action Party, DAP-K party leader, is yet to declare his interest in the senate race.

However, DAP-K National Chairman David Muchele and Bungoma county Agriculture CEC Mathews Makanda urged residents to vote for Wamunyinyi “when the right time comes.”

“His experience as a legislator in the National Assembly makes him the best bet for the race,” they said.

The leaders were speaking at a funeral in Marakaru-Tuuti ward, Kanduyi Constituency on Saturday.

While speaking at the event, Wamunyinyi called for calm during this electioneering period in the county.

“Bungoma is a great county which requires proper leadership; it requires proper oversight As a party we are in discussions to field a strong candidate,” said Wamunyinyi.

Bungoma county senate seat fell vacant after Moses Wetang’ula resigned to become Speaker of the National Assembly.

IEBC has since gazetted December 8, 2022 for by-election in Bungoma.
