Bodaboda operator pleads guilty to defiling 16-year-old girl in Kitui

A bodaboda rider in Kyuso sub county in Kitui County will be sentenced for 15 years in jail after pleading guilty to defiling a 16-year-old girl.

Joseph Mwendwa Kitheka, 26, admitted the offence before the Kyuso senior resident magistrate Mercy Nasimiyu.

His sentence was however postponed by Nasimiyu until November 2 pending a probation report on the accused.

According to the charge sheet on diverse dates between August 6 and October 22, Mwendwa defiled the girl.

Charles Machinji who is the Kyuso sub county police boss explained that the accused lived with the schoolgirl for almost three months before police officers arrested him following a tip.

As indicated by Machinji the accused was arrested alongside the young girl in a house in Itivanzou where they lived as husband and wife.

It is reported that Mwendwa had the permission of the father of the girl after giving him six goats as part of the bride price.
