Ugandan musician-turned-politician Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has been arrested.

In a message on his Twitter account, Bobi Wine said he was arrested on Monday while heading to a press conference where he was to address the public on issues of “police brutality, injustice and abuse of authority.”

“Police and the military blocked us from reaching Busabala for our press conference about police brutality, injustice and abuse of authority. A citizen cannot be allowed to access his private property. People teargassed, beaten, Many arrested. We shall overcome,” read the tweet.

Bobi Wine was dramatically arrested and whisked away by a police van to an unknown destination, reports Ugandan newspaper, the Daily Monitor.

A video capturing the arrest showed a contingent of heavily armed security officers trying to break into Bobi Wine’s car to arrest him.

The arrest came after Ugandan authorities on Friday cancelled all Easter music shows that Bobi Wine had planned in Kampala, Arua and Lira, sparking protests from his supporters.
