Three KCSE candidates have died in Homa Bay County in the past one week.

Early last week, a candidate at Atemo Mixed Secondary School in Rachuonyo East collapsed during a football match and died.

Otieno and his colleagues had decided to play football after exams when he collapsed.

On Sunday this week, another candidate at DC Mixed Secondary School in Rangwe died after sustaining serious injuries during a football match.

Javan Onyango, 17, was injured in the abdomen on Friday evening.

Gem West chief Joel Otieno said the boy was kicked accidentally by one of his friends.

“Information I have is the boy sustained serious injuries on the lower abdomen. It is suspected that someone accidentally kicked him and interfered with his kidney,” said Otieno.

The boy was rushed to a private hospital in Rodi Kopany Township after he collapsed. His condition later worsened and was referred to the county referral hospital where he die.

On the same Sunday, Faith Atieno Ouko of Kakimba Mixed Secondary in Suba North passed on following complications during delivery at the county referral hospital.
